The 101st Airborne Division was a light infantry division of the U.S. Army that specialized in air assault operations. The 101st, nicknamed the "Screaming Eagles" after the image on the division's insignia, distinguished itself during the Second World War during the Normandy invasion in June 1944. It then participated in Operation Market Garden in September 1944 and in the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944.
