Important crossroads on National route 13, the village was taken on the night of 5 to 6 June 1944 by parachutists from the US 82nd Airborne around 4:30. Many of them like men from the 101st Airborne, were trapped in the surrounding marshes that had been flooded on Rommel's orders.
